Yoga brought balance to Grace’s demanding corporate schedule when she began practicing in 2004. Exploring various styles and teachers eventually brought her to Mysore, India to practice with her mentor Sharath in 2005. She attended John Scott’s Workshop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Inspired by Sharath and John, she became a dedicated and disciplined student of the Ashtanga Vinyasa System. The focus on the breath, alignment of postures, bandhas and drishtis attracted her analytical mind and continues to fuel her passion for the Ashtanga practice. Since 2005, she has travelled to India annually to further study with Sharath and she is practicing the intermediate series.
Grace likes to share her love of yoga with others and started teaching in 2005 at various studios in Hong Kong, such as California Fitness Centre, Yogasia (subsidiary of Sau San Tong), Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hotel Spa. She has more 10 years of teaching experience. Her teaching unites the gift of her logical mind, careful attention to details, and devotion to the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga lineage. She sees body alignment and calmness of mind as the essence of the class.
Grace received the blessings of Authorised Teacher Level 1 and 2, respectively from Shri K. Pattabhi Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI). Her Guru, R. Sharath Jois, has entrusted her to teach the Primary and Intermediate Series. She is listed under the Europe section on the KPJAYI website (www.kpjayi.org).
A yoga practitioner since 2002, Joseph became dedicated to the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga lineage in 2006, studying with Alex Medin and in 2011, began yearly travels to Mysore in India to study with Sharath Jois; currently practicing the Intermediate Series and has just received blessings from Sharath of Authorised Teacher Level 1.
Inspired by Alex Medin, Joseph began studies in Sanskrit and the Yoga Philosophy in 2007 with Vidwan Vijaya Kumar of Sasthana, Karnataka, India (http://www.yogagurukula.in/about-vijaya.html) and is still continuing further studies with him. Vijaya is a distinguished scholar from Mysore Sanskrit College who studied with Vidwan Gangadhara Bhat, a renowned and learned guru of that institution (where Pattabhi Jois taught for many decades).
Joseph did formal study of Sanskrit with Professor Dhammajoti, Centre of Buddhist Studies, University of Hong Kong (www.buddhism.hku.hk/staff_info/VenProfKLDhammajoti.pdf) and graduated in 2012 with an M.A. (Buddhist Studies), University of Hong Kong. In 2013 Joseph studied the Summer course in Spoken Sanskrit at the Südasien-Institut, Universität Heildelberg with Dr. Sadanada Das (www.sai.uni-heidelberg.de/abt/IND/summerschool/Spoken_Sanskrit.php).
